The Story
With only ninety guests, every detail could be personal. We used family textiles, a shared meal, and plenty of time for conversation.
Planning the Day
Kirana and Wisnu chose a joglo in Kotagede because it reminded them of their grandparents' houses. With ninety guests, we could treat the day like a family gathering and plan every seat, every dish, and every moment by name.
We borrowed textiles from both families, lurik cloth from Wisnu's side and old batik from Kirana's, and used them as table runners and backdrops. Nothing in the styling was bought new if it could be borrowed or repaired.
On the Day
The akad took place under the joglo's central roof, with guests seated on low benches around the couple. The atmosphere was quiet and close, and the only music was a single siter player in the corner.
Afterwards everyone shared a long meal of home-style dishes cooked by a local family kitchen. The afternoon drifted into conversation, and the last guests left with leftovers wrapped in banana leaves.
