The Story
Dewi and Ardi grew up hiking in East Java's hills, and wanted guests to arrive somewhere that felt different from the city.
We built the ceremony in a pine clearing, with wildflowers collected the week of the wedding from local growers.
Planning the Day
Building a ceremony in a pine forest meant working with the land rather than over it. We walked the clearing with the forest keepers to agree on where seating could go, which paths to use, and how to leave the ground exactly as we found it.
Because the venue sits at altitude, the plan covered warmth and transport in detail. Shuttles ran from two pickup points in Malang, and every guest received a printed card with timings and a map.
On the Day
The akad was held in the morning among the pines, with family seated on simple benches and wildflowers lining the aisle. The imam's words carried clearly in the still air, and the ceremony ended with a quiet prayer led by Ardi's father.
Lunch was served in a long marquee, and as the afternoon cooled guests gathered around the fire pit with ginger tea and blankets. Several people told us it was the most peaceful wedding they had attended.
Highlights
Warmth mattered at altitude, so blankets, a fire pit, and a hot drinks station were part of the design.
